Local Rules
The regular Local Rules have been included below. However, from time to time Special Local Rules are published, together with Winter Rules. The precise dates between which these rules apply are detailed on the Club Notice Boards.
1. OUT OF BOUNDS (Rule 27-1)
- On or over any wall, fence or hedge bounding the Course.
- On or over any wall or gateway bounding Lodge Farm on the 13 th hole.
- Beyond the beech hedge from the front of the 1 st tee and its continuation to the back of the 2 nd green.
- On or over the boundary fence to the railway line.
- On or over the paths surrounding the 1 st tee, clubhouse and the car park.
- The car park.
2. LATERAL WATER HAZARDS (Rule 26-1)
- Water hazards marked by red stakes such as those on the 3rd , 5th , 9th , 11th, 12th, 15th and 16th holes.
NOTE: All other water hazards on the Course are ordinary water hazards (Rule 26-1).
3. INTEGRAL PARTS OF THE COURSE
(See Definition of Obstructions)
- The winter greens on the 8th , 10th and 12th holes.
- The quarries to the right of the 6th fairway and 15th tee. In all cases the ball must be played as it lies or be declared unplayable (Rule 28).
4. ROADS AND PATHS
- The roads running through the Course and all paths on the Course which are constructed with red shale, or "hexapath" material, are obstructions.
Relief may be obtained in accordance with Rule 24-2b.
NOTE: All other paths and patches bare ground are integral parts of the Course.
5. IMMOVABLE OBSTRUCTION CLOSE TO PUTTING GREEN
- The specimen local rule in the rules of golf is in effect (see pages 128-129).
6. STONES IN BUNKERS
- Stones in bunkers are movable obstructions - Rule 24-1 applies.
7. GROUND UNDER REPAIR (Rule 25-1)
- Any area encircled by a white line.
8. PRACTICE AREAS
- The practice area on the right of the 18th hole is an integral part of the Course on which practice is permitted on the day of competition.
9. PROTECTION OF YOUNG TREES
- Protection of young trees identified by stakes. If such a tree interferes with a player's stance or the area of his intended swing, the ball must be lifted, without penalty, and dropped in accordance with the procedure prescribed in Rule 24-2b (Immovable Obstruction).
PENALTY FOR BREACH OF A LOCAL RULE:
- Match Play - LOSS OF HOLE
- Stroke Play - TWO STROKES
