Mildred Greenhalgh
It is with great regret that we announce the sad news that Mrs Mildred Greenhalgh passed away peacefully on Sunday 22nd April.
Our thoughts are with Julia, Angela and Louise at this sad time.

Mildred Shutt joined Pleasington Golf Club as a junior in 1929 and was a member of the first Pleasington Scratch team to win the Lancashire shield in 1938. She continued to represent the club for many years and also played for Lancashire before the Second World War.
In 1939 Mildred married Charles Greenhalgh who was a regular County golfer and three times Bolton Champion. After Charles' death the Club Mixed Foursomes Knockout Trophy was renamed the "Charles Greenhalgh Mixed Trophy" in his memory.
Mildred was Lady Captain of Pleasington in 1956 and Lady President from 1972 - 1984. She was Captain of the Lancashire Ladies County Golf Association in 1961 and President from 1982 - 1984. She was awarded Life Membership of Pleasington Golf Club in recognition of her outstanding contribution to the Club for so many years.
Mildred's brother, Henry Shutt, was Captain of Pleasington in 1954 and her elder sister, Eileen Shutt, was Lady Captain in 1935 and the first Lady President from 1956 - 1972. Charles Greenhalgh was Captain in 1947 and all three of Mildred's daughters - Julia, Angela and Louise - have been Lady Captain. Louise was Lady President from 2004 - 2007 and Angela is the current President of the Lancashire Ladies County Golf Association.
Right up until her death at 96 years of age Mildred's incredible ability to remember names, faces and facts has proved invaluable in ensuring the history and heritage of Pleasington Golf Club can be recorded accurately in a forthcoming section of the website.

Mildred is pictured on the left end of the middle row in 1938.
Details of the funeral arrangements will be announced later.
