Age No Barrier!
Earlier today saw the oldest recorded player in a Pleasington competition when Bill Pickup (aged 90) played in the latest Thursday morning 9 hole stableford.
Bill is pictured on the right with his younger playing partner, octogenarian Bert Smart before they led out the rest of the 18 strong field. Bill joined Pleasington in 1969 from Blackburn, his lowest recorded handicap was 5 and he still plays twice a week now. At the other end of the age scale the youngest competitor was Jordan Chadwick who has only just turned 18 - it just goes to show that golf is truly a sport for all ages.
Sadly Bill's score wasn't quite enough to beat the winning score of 18 points by Len Park who took the grand prize of a bottle of wine after a card play off with Mike Stone who was the winner of the first competition.
Jan Catterall took the inaugrual Ladies prize in her first competitive outing since recovering from firstly breaking her ankle and then suffering a nasty bout of pneumonia.
The next 9 hole competition will take place on 30th August when Bill hopes to get the second card towards his three needed to gain an active handicap!
